Why YOU Are The MOST Important Nurse Today...

Published: Mon, 05/08/17

Hi

I hope that this note finds you well in your life and in your work.

So, what's up with the "YOU are the MOST important" ?

Aren't we all important? Isn't it vital that we recognize the importance of one another? Indeed.....however....

....as nurses, we can get caught up in the negative self-talk that goes on within our mind, or in the stress of work rather than what we know to be our best self. Too often, it's easy to forget why we matter so much to those around us; to our patients, to our peers and to those we love.

Stress at work and the daily grind can wear down your attention and make it harder for you to stay focused and provide the care that you want to give. One of the main obstacles to showing up at the bedside is a distracted mind.

Stress causes distraction, and distraction means that you're forgetting that to your patients, you are the most important person because...well, you're there to care for them and that's important.

Let's quickly look at what being "important" means:

im·por·tant
imˈpôrtnt/

adjective

~ of great significance or value; likely to have a profound effect on success, survival, or well-being.

No doubt about it, when you take a look at the definition of important, it describes YOU perfectly! Even the words "success," "survival" and "well-being" are probably somewhere in your listed outcomes for patient satisfaction, right?

JUST FOR YOU:

Five years ago, I published the book, Minding the Bedside: Nursing from the Heart of the Awakened Mind. It's a book by a nurse (that's me) for a nurse (that's you) about how to deal with the effects of stress and distraction mindfully so that your importance to your patients can make the biggest difference. And for this year's National Nurses Week, I'm giving you my book for free, in exchange for...nothing!

All you need to do is to go to Amazon, between May 10th - May 12th, and download the Kindle version of my book. That's it. That simple.

This Wednesday, I'll send you an email with the link to the Amazon page where you can find my book and then all you have to do is...get it.

If you know of others who may benefit from my book (and they don't even have to be RNs) please feel free to send them here so that they can get Wednesday's email and get my book.

Why am I giving away my book? At this point, having you and others read my book isn't about making money because that's never been what my book was about; it's about sharing the benefits that I've experienced from mindfulness and awareness practices with you.

Well, that's it for now. Stay tuned to further emails with details about the book as well as other cool stuff... ;-)

Take care,

Jerome
